Ladies and gentlemen, my we present; the newly commissioned officers!

I am an officer of the Singapore Armed Forces
My duty is to Lead, to Excel and to Overcome.

I Lead my men by example,
I answer for their training, morale and discipline.

I must Excel in everything I do,
I serve with pride, honour and integrity.

I will Overcome adversity with
Courage, fortitude and determination.

I dedicate my life to Singapore.

--------------------------------------------------

Today is the proudest day of my life.

Why?

I was commissioned by the President of the Republic of Singapore as an officer of the Singapore Armed Forces.

9 months of tough and intense training has finally come down to this one event every officer cadet so looks forward to.

The Commissioning Parade.

Alright, so it wasn't perfect. Some idiots had to faint and get stretchered away while the President was giving his speech. I am, in fact, really REALLY upset they had to spoil our otherwise almost perfect parade.

But so what? I was still commissioned as an officer. And what was better was that my family was there. No friends except Alexis ( much cheers to you dude! ) turned up, but what the hell, all my friends were on the parade square with me!

I guess the experiences, pain and joys of the past 9 months summed up to the final 1 second of the parade, where the MC announced: ' Ladies and gentlemen! May I present, the newly commissioned officers! ' And we all threw our peak caps.

Allow me to emphasize: Threw our peak caps. As high as our numb hands could throw them, and as far as the wind would take them. Throwing that peak cap, for a moment nothing in the world mattered to me anymore. No words can explain how I felt in that 1 second. It was pure jubilation. Pure, 100%, untainted jubilation.
